Dr. Katherine (Kate) Courtright's research is focused on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of specialty palliative care services for seriously ill patients. She is interested in leveraging advanced data science tools and electronic medical records to develop a novel automated, needs-based approach to direct such services to those most likely to benefit from them. Dr. Courtright is a member of the PAIR Center and the Fostering Improvement in End-of-Life Decision Science (FIELDS) program at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

After graduating from Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Courtright completed residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. During fellowship, she completed a masters of health policy research and was awarded the prestigious Lee B. Lusted Student Prize Award for her thesis work.

In 2016, Dr. Courtright joined the faculty of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania and undertook additional clinical training in Palliative and Hospice Medicine. She cares for patients in the medical intensive care unit and on the palliative care consult team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
