Dr. Connie Ulrich is the Lillian S. Brunner Chair in Medical-Surgical Nursing and a nurse bioethicist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing with a secondary appointment in the School of Medicine, Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. After graduating from the University of Maryland School of Nursing doctoral program, Dr. Ulrich was the first postdoctoral nurse trained in bioethics at the National Institutes of Health, Department of Bioethics.

Dr. Ulrich's bioethics program of research has focused on the everyday ethical issues in clinical practice and research, including morally distressing situations for clinicians. These studies include ethical issues that clinicians and researchers encounter in their clinical and research practice and the ethical stress these issues engender. Dr. Ulrich's empirical research also includes ethical issues surrounding informed consent and the benefits and burdens associated with participation in cancr clinical trials in which she has received federal funding from the National Institutes of Nursing Research and the National Cancer Institute. She has also received funding from the National Postdoctoral Organization, in conjunction with the Office of Research Integrity, to address the responsible conduct of research for faculty and students as well as other foundational grants.

Dr. Ulrich has authored publications in leading peer-review medical, nursing, and bioethics journals and presentations at national and international professional meetings. Dr. Ulrich is an elected member of the American Academy of Nursing and a Salzburg Fellow.
