Biography

Dr. Dustin Krutsinger’s research focuses on understanding how surrogate decision makers of critically ill patients make decisions, the burdens of this role, and how to reduce these burdens. He is especially interested in how surrogates make decisions surrounding trial enrollment. He uses qualitative research to understand the surrogates’ perspectives and randomized trials to identify interventions to ease decision making.

 

Before entering medical school at the University of Iowa, he practiced as an ICU nurse for 6 years. He completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of Iowa. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, during which time he received support from the PAIR Center to obtain a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

 

Dr. Krutsinger lives in Omaha with his wife and three kids. They enjoy camping, cooking, triathlons, and outdoor movies.
